An All-Party Parliamentary Group is a politically neutral cross-party group of Parliamentarians concerned about a particular issue - in this case the UK fisheries industry.

Though they are run by and for Members of the Commons and Lords, many choose to involve outside organisations for advice and administration. The APPG on Fisheries has regular meetings within Parliament or online to discuss happenings within the UK fisheries industry, as well as listening to the thoughts of anybody with an interest in the sector. This includes receiving expert presentations and testimony from those working in fisheries, or on fisheries issues. Based on these discussions, the APPG compiles various written outputs, and from time to time carries out in-depth research into pressing issues relating to fisheries. These outputs are published to our website.

Our APPG runs a series of open Parliamentary seminars on key topics for the sector. To attend or get involved, keep an eye on our events page or get in touch.

The Secretariat services for the APPG on Fisheries are provided by Mindfully Wired Communications, a specialist communications consultancy working in the environmental sector. These services are delivered at a not-for-profit day rate and resourced at a minimum of 2 days per week. Alongside co-ordination with the Group’s Parliamentarians and their offices, these services involve delivery of a suite of communications for the Group, including organisation and hosting of regular hybrid, public facing meetings, compilation and distribution of a fortnightly newsletter, website and social media management, in-house delivery and publication of policy briefs and reports, including at times significant research support. On account of the responsive nature of the work of the APPG, funding amounts for services may vary year to year to accommodate additional support such as the production of research pieces and policy briefings.

Mindfully Wired Communications produces an annual report and accounts which are published on Companies House. The Secretariat services for the APPG on Fisheries are funded by The Fishmongers’ Company’s Fisheries Charitable Trust (Registered Charity number 284888, Scottish Charity number SC042845). The Fishmongers' Company supports the UK fishing sector and other non-fishery areas through philanthropy and grant-funded projects. We are committed to maintaining transparency in UK parliamentary and public affairs.

APPG on Fisheries Code of Conduct

The APPG on Fisheries is committed to transparency and neutrality in the delivery of our work. We follow the Rules on All-Party Parliamentary Groups and publish information about our Group on the Register of APPGs including our Income and Expenditure statement, and Minutes and Policy Briefs arising from our formal meetings.

Our APPG represents a range of perspectives and under no circumstance will we support, endorse, campaign on behalf of or lobby for one organisation.

Recognising that the UK’s fishing fleet is geographically and operationally diverse, the APPG on Fisheries does not promote one industry segment, sector or geography over another, or spotlight the challenges of one segment of the fleet to the detriment of another.

The APPG is committed to encouraging discussion, debate and learning around key questions for the future of the fishing industry, processing sector, coastal communities and the marine environment, in a manner that is constructive and respectful.
