Financial Compensation for Seafood Businesses

UK seafood exporters have been offered financial support from a £23 million fund to compensate businesses “who can evidence a genuine loss in exporting fish and shellfish to the EU”, due to the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic or the new regulations put in place since the UK's departure from the EU.
Helping the Seafood Industry with New Export Rules

Following reports of disruption to seafood exports to the EU, Defra has signposted the resources available to help exporters comply with the EU's customs system, correctly fill in Catch Certificates and Export Health Certificates, and other administrative aspects.

Fishing Licences from the Single Issuing Authority

Under the new Fisheries Act 2020, fishing licences for UK vessels accessing non-UK waters, and for non-UK vessels accessing UK waters, are issued by the MMO, which is acting in this capacity as the UK Single Issuing Authority. Domestic licences, on the other hand, are the responsibility of the four fishing authorities.

UK Government Signs Agreement with ICES

The UK government has signed a memorandum of understanding with ICES, the advisory body that produces scientific advice for sustainable fisheries management measures. The memorandum outlines how UK scientists will contribute to ICES and how the UK will use its advice.
